Joe Roman

Wine maker

Joe Roman grew up in California, USA and has worked in the wine industry for many years. After studying economics at Cal State in California and graduating, he decided to change course and focus on the art of winemaking. He continued his studies in Oregon in Oenology and Viticulture and completed his studies by taking his Masters in the subject in Switzerland at the Wine University Changins Campus.

Joe has built up work experience in winemaking in various places in wine cellars and on vineyards in the USA (California / Oregon), Italy, Germany, Switzerland and now Sweden. He has worked as an apprentice, assistant winemaker consultant and now as head of the wine cellar. While working under winemaker Isabelle Dutarte at Boutique Winery DePonte Cellers in Dundee Oregon, he built up his knowledge in his area of expertise, producing soft and silky Pinot Noir wines.

After experiencing winemaking in different wineries and places in the world, Joe realized the importance of changing his mind and starting to think more environmentally friendly and sustainable. Being able to produce wine with as little environmental impact as possible has become a goal. Joe wants to work without spraying in the fields. Following recommendations from a friend, Joe opened his eyes to the grape varieties that collect under the name PIWI’s. These grapes are resistant in themselves and do not require spraying. The choice was easy and after some research it turned out that 98% of all vines planted in Sweden are PIWIS. After that, the step was not far to contact Annette and Jonas at Arilds Vingård. It quickly turned out that the 3 shared the same environmental thinking and to grow as environmentally friendly as possible and 3 weeks later Joe, together with his companion for 17 years Mika (a Jack Russel) and a pair of skis, moved to Sweden.

Joe believes a lot in Swedish wine and is proud to produce environmentally friendly wines with quality.

In his spare time, Joe likes to paint, fish (without much luck though…) and hang out with his faithful friend Mika.

Vi som jobbar här Johan Båge

Johan Båge

Restaurant & sales manager

Johan grew up in Arild, but lived during parts of his upbringing in different parts of Africa when the family worked with aid. Just in time for high school, he moved home to study art, which after graduation took him to Gothenburg where he went to art school for five years.

During his studies, Johan started working extra at a restaurant, which led him to a new path.

Since 2001, the restaurant has been the main occupation; Johan quickly worked his way up in the industry. He went on to better and better taverns, and his interest in wine — which developed into a passion — was aroused early on. Johan has worked as a restaurant manager, foreman and sommelier in Gothenburg since then. He has also worked as a wine salesman for Dryckesbutiken for a period.

After his two children were born, Johan wanted to leave the big city to be able to give them an equally safe upbringing as he himself had, close to the sea and nature in a small town. The wife was on the notes, and in 2020 the moving load went back to Kullahalvön. Since Johan is passionate about natural and sustainable wines, working at Arilds Vingård was a natural choice.

He is responsible for all wine sales to restaurants, and the operation of the winery’s restaurant.

Vi som jobbar här Anette Ivarsson

Annette Ivarsson

Owner

Annette trained as a high school teacher in biology and science. While she was studying, she and her future husband Jonas found the farm outside Arild. They bought it to have something to renovate. This was 1997. When Annette graduated, she worked for a few years as a teacher. At the same time, Jonas and Annette formed a family and they had three children until 2005. In 2013, the youngest was born, so now the family consists of 4 children.

Annette wanted to work with wine and she decided together with Jonas to start a vineyard. In 2007, they planted their first vines. They discovered quite quickly that education was needed and Annette began to study wine science, with a lot of studies, especially in Germany. Since Annette already read a lot of biology and chemistry, she could credit herself a lot and focused on wine knowledge. At the same time, she trained as a sommelier. In 2010, when the first harvest was to be made, they decided to open a restaurant and since then, hotel glamping and vineyards have grown every year. The goal is to make wine without conventional poisons nor copper spraying. Even weed control is now managed by small sheep and this reminds Annette of her childhood when her great-grandmother always had sheep.
